Things Have Changed.
“Work very hard in your Secondary school to get great points in grade 12, get to the University work hard to get a degree, get a job and rise the ranks to be successful in Life” Does this sound familiar to you?
It is quite probable that our parents/guardians or elderly have told us this. Were they wrong? NO. Does it apply today? NOT ANYMORE.
Too Much Supply Small Demand.
In 1991 Zambia had two recognised Universities these being The University of Zambia and Copperbelt University. During this period once you are done with university degree a job was almost certainly secured immediately after school, no need to struggle. 25 years later, in addition to the advent of online Universities from abroad offering degrees to Zambians we have over 68 registered Universities in Zambia offloading tens of thousands of graduates every year in the Zambian workforce market.
As a consequence the Zambian workforce cannot be absorbed in the currently available jobs. Unemployment applies even if you are coming from the most powerful University in the land (UNZA), infact even courses like education that had a lot of opportunities in the recent past have since become saturated for the government to take on all graduates, as a result we have graduates not posted in teaching service 5 years after graduation.
A Thought that is Outdated & Misleading
This clearly indicates that the thought of go to University, get a degree, get a job and be successful is outdated and misleading. The future thought now is, get an education be an entrepreneur and be successful.
Current Government Status
Friends I believe that true success lies in entrepreneurship. We need people who will help create employment for the masses out there. The government has no capacity to curb unemployment in Zambia, in fact it is entrepreneurs that are running the big economies in the world like America.Improve yourself as you improve Zambia
